Only four months after entering the Cyprus market, we have managed to start the operation of our first Cypriot power plant Athienou! The ceremonial ribbon cutting by SOLEK Group founder and CEO Zdenek Sobotka together with the local Director of the Environmental Department.
“The island is situated in a location that enjoys one of the highest levels of solar radiation in the European Union. Electricity is expensive in this location and its production relies heavily on costly and, more importantly, non-environmentally friendly gas and heavy fuel oil. In addition, Cyprus has no interconnections with neighbouring countries and has to rely on its own electricity production,” said Zdeněk Sobotka on the next strategic step. The SOLEK Group is currently preparing about 70 smaller projects in Cyprus and plans to build power plants with a capacity of up to 150 MW in Cyprus within two to three years at the latest.
